William Bratton

William Bratton (1778-1841) was born in Augusta County, Virginia, and came to Kentucky as a child. The family is believed to have settled in Franklin County near the Woodford County line. He enlisted in the expedition on October 20, 1803, served as a hunter and blacksmithing assistant, and suffered a serious back ailment on the return trip that fellow Kentuckian John Shields helped cure. He served in the War of 1812, married in 1819 in Warren County, and eventually settled in Waynetown, Indiana.
